Thermador is part of the BSH group alongside Bosch and Gaggenau, and that parentage decides how the appliance talks to you. The wall ovens post F-codes at the control. The Sapphire dishwashers use the Bosch-style E-codes, so an E15 on a Thermador means the same thing it means on a Bosch. Owners who look up a Thermador dishwasher fault in a GE code chart get nowhere, and this is the single most common wrong turn on this brand.
Two Code Families Under One Badge
Treat the oven and the dishwasher as different machines that happen to share a kitchen. The oven side uses F-codes covering the control, the temperature sensor and the door latch. The dishwasher side uses E-codes tied to the Aquastop water-management system that BSH designed. E15 is the one that brings us out most: water has reached the base tray and the float has tripped the Aquastop, so the machine will not run until the tray is dry and the source is found. That is a leak diagnosis, not a code reset.
| Code | Appliance | Likely Cause | What the Fix Involves |
|---|---|---|---|
| F1 | Oven | Control board or stuck key | Reset; replace the control if it returns |
| F2 | Oven | Over-temperature condition | Check the sensor and relay, replace as needed |
| F3 / F4 | Oven | Sensor open or shorted | Test and replace the oven sensor |
| F7 | Oven | Stuck keypad button | Replace the keypad or control panel |
| E15 | Dishwasher | Aquastop float tripped by water in the base | Dry the tray, find and fix the leak source |
| E24 | Dishwasher | Drain blocked or restricted | Clear the filter, hose and air gap |
Why Induction Cooktops Rarely Fault the Way People Expect
The Freedom induction tops are the other Thermador subsystem worth understanding. An induction zone that quits mid-cook is almost never a dead coil. The coil sits above its own electronics, and those electronics are cooled by a small fan that pulls air from beneath the counter. Block the intake, and the control shuts the zone down to protect itself, then brings it back once things cool. Owners read the intermittent behavior as a failing coil and are surprised the fix is airflow. On a Erie remodel where an installer boxed the cooktop into a tight run of cabinetry, this is the fault we find more than any other.
The related surprise is pan detection. Induction needs a ferrous base, and a heavy copper or aluminum pan will simply not be seen. A zone that reports nothing on one pan and works on another is behaving exactly as designed.
What Thin Air Does to a Thermador Oven
At Erie elevation an oven takes longer to come up to setpoint and holds heat differently once it gets there. Thermador ovens are well insulated, which helps, but the practical effect is that the element and its relay spend more of their life energized than the same oven would at sea level. An F2 over-temperature on a mountain installation is worth taking seriously rather than resetting away, because the relay on the control is the part that tends to weld closed after years of that duty, and a welded relay keeps heating whether or not the display agrees.
Before You Book
Note whether the code came from the oven or the dishwasher, and write the exact characters down. F and E are not interchangeable here and the distinction routes the whole diagnosis. For an oven F2 or F3, the sensor is confirmed with a meter before anything is replaced, because a shorted sensor reports a temperature that was never real and drives a false over-temperature. Ruling the sensor out first protects you from paying for a control board that was reading bad data from a much cheaper part.
For an E15, do not tip the machine to drain it. Tipping moves the water out of the tray and into the electronics, and it turns a gasket repair into a control replacement.
Codes Point, They Do Not Fix
An error code narrows where to look, but the same code can have more than one cause. A technician confirms the fault with a meter before replacing a part, so you are not paying to swap good components.
